Dodge, Spin, or Lie to Their Faces: Surviving the v1.48 Live Press Conference Minigame

⚡ TL;DR — VERSION 1.48 PRE-LAUNCH DISPATCH: PART 2

In Silly Con Valley Version 1.48 (launching Tuesday, October 27), founders can step directly up to the podium from the CEO Office (1 AP, 4-week cooldown) or during high-profile crises to play the new startup PR crisis simulator: a 3-round, 10-second-per-question Live Press Conference minigame where every word moves your Composure and Media Sentiment meters.

Every Silicon Valley founder eventually faces the ballroom full of microphones. Maybe your flagship product launched with 18% quality and erased user bookmarks. Maybe you took a predatory loan from a Sand Hill Road shark. Or maybe you simply need a desperate injection of media hype before next week’s Series B pitch battle.

Until now, PR crises were settled inside standard briefing menus. Starting Tuesday in Version 1.48 (“Hype, Chaos & Virality”), you walk out under the hot broadcast lights for the Live Press Conference Minigame.

01 // Three Rounds. Ten Seconds on the Clock.

Calling a press conference from your CEO Office costs 1 Action Point (with a 4-week media cooldown so you can’t spam the press corps every Monday), or triggers directly when you choose to face reporters during major company scandals. Once the cameras roll, you face three consecutive reporter questions with a strict 10-second countdown timer on each:

  • 🛡️ DODGE: Deflect blame onto macroeconomic headwinds, legacy telecom infrastructure, or an unnamed intern. Safer for preserving composure, especially if you play as a Hustler CEO (+20% Dodge effectiveness).
  • 🌀 SPIN: Reframe a catastrophic server outage as “unprecedented organic user demand exceeding physical laws.” High risk, massive hype reward—and the signature weapon of the Visionary CEO (+25% Spin effectiveness).
  • 📊 TRUTH: Lay out the raw engineering post-mortem and unit economics without flinching. Hostile tabloid reporters hate boring honesty, unless you command the credibility of an Engineer / Technical CEO (+25% Truth effectiveness).

02 // Watch Your Composure—And Make the Front Page

Throughout all three rounds, two live gauges track your performance: CEO Composure and Media Sentiment. Let the 10-second clock expire—or pick a stance that clashes horribly with the reporter’s angle—and your composure cracks under the flashbulbs.

When the final flashbulb pops, your performance is immortalized on the front page of The Silicon Inquirer—a brand-new, exportable vintage newspaper share card complete with a bold serif headline, your exact CEO quote, and your final Media Sentiment delta pill.
